Afternoon beauty fix / Perk up your face in a flash, even after your makeup’s done:

Thursday, October 20, 2011

Adding a red lipstick or a bright blush will amplify the colour on your face, but more colour doesn’t necessary look more vibrant. Alternatively, you could score a natural flush by pinching your cheeks, but you may end up with broken capillaries and a serious hate-on for your forefinger and thumb. Your third and best option is to carryLise Watier‘s Flash Lift Radiance Vials ($27, lisewatier.ca) in your purse—they’re little tubes of lively ammunition packed with Vitamin E, B3, and a special ingredient called allantoin to metabolize tired cells fast for spritely skin whenever you want or need it. The best part? They’ll work alone or over makeup you applied hours and hours ago.

Afternoon beauty fix / A revitalizing treatment for hair? I dye:

Monday, October 17, 2011

The colour you’re dying your hair is a major factor in the damage department. If you’re going lighter than your natural shade you’ll need either a semi-permanent or permanent dye, though both employ hydrogen peroxide to remove the natural pigments in your hair. If you’re going darker, try choosing a demi-permanent dye instead—it doesn’t need to “lift” your hair before colouring and won’t deteriorate your hair’s strength nearly as much. Whichever way you’re going, you’ll likely benefit from using a treatment afterwards. We like Joico K-PAK Revitaluxe ($25, joico.com) because it holds old damage together with peptides that bind, and prevents future damage by pumping your hair full of amino acids with strength.
